How do I start?

Begin by familiarising yourself with the structure and content of the currently existing wiki pages. As you do so, look for gaps where you could add your own insights or places where you'd like to improve or simply comment on current material. The value of this wiki - much like Wikipedia - comes from everyone contributing what they know and collaboratively building a useful resource.

Once you've identified places to add your own content, you can either edit an exisitng page or create a new page.

It may be a good idea to start by watching some video tours of how to work with wikis at WikiSpaces VideoTours. Just choose the video tour you want to watch from the dropdown list above the embedded video.

How do I edit an existing page?

You can edit any page on this wiki unless it is locked (a few key pages, such as the Homepage and Instructions, are locked in this way to prevent accidental overwriting). To edit any unlocked page, look for the tabs above the page:
Simply click the Edit tab on the left-hand side, and an editing toolbar will appear. It looks like this:
The first few buttons on the toolbar work in much the same way as on Microsoft Word. Some of the others, like Link, File, and Widget, refer to common web functions.

For full instructions on how to use all these buttons to edit a page, see Wikispaces Help: Editing a Webpage.

You might like to start experimenting with using these buttons on the Sandbox page, which has been set up for exactly that purpose. And don't worry, you can never delete content permanently on a wiki page - it can always be recovered by going one step back in the History tab. So don't be afraid to experiment on any unlocked page!

How do I create a new page?

If there's not an existing page on a topic you'd like to write about, add it yourself! There are two steps to follow:

  1. Click on the + symbol next to Pages and Files near the top of the menu on the left-hand side. Follow the instructions to name your new page - there's no need to worry about adding tags - and then press "Create". Add some placeholder content to your new page (even if it's just a few random letters or words) as you can go back and add or edit material later.

  2. Click on Edit Navigation at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side. Add the name of your new page wherever it seems appropriate in the list. Then hyperlink the name of the page to the page itself. If you need help with hyperlinking, see Wikispaces Help: Editing a Webpage. Alternatively, get in touch with one of the wiki administrators for advice.

How do I start a discussion?

Simply click on the button that looks like speech bubbles to the right of the edit button.
